Where to eat in Courchevel: from Le Praz to the mountain restaurants

Courchevel has one of the highest concentrations of good restaurants in the Alps, from Savoyard bistros to three-star dining rooms. The trick is knowing where to go at which time of day, and booking early in high season.

Eating in Le Praz, on the chalet's doorstep

Le Praz (Courchevel 1300) still looks and feels like a Savoyard village: a handful of genuine restaurants around the church and the lake, within walking distance of the chalet. You can dine without taking the car, on honest mountain cooking at prices that bear no relation to 1850.

  • —Traditional Savoyard food: fondue, croûte au fromage, diots
  • —Village bistros open in the evening
  • —Book from November for school holiday weeks

Lunch on the slopes

The Courchevel ski area has around twenty mountain restaurants, from simple refuges to the most fashionable terraces. The Col de la Loze sector offers great sunny stops; on the La Tania and Le Praz side, the forest addresses are quieter and better value.

Practical tip: eat early, around noon, or late, after 1.30pm. In between, the best terraces are full and service slows down considerably in February.

Fine dining in Courchevel 1850

Courchevel 1850 hosts several Michelin-starred restaurants inside the resort's palace hotels. These dinners need booking weeks ahead, with a dress code and a matching budget. The Le Praz gondola does not run late, so plan a taxi or shuttle for the way home.

Dinner at the chalet: the simplest option

Over a week, alternating between eating out and eating in works best, especially with children. A private chef plans menus with you, shops, serves and leaves the kitchen spotless. During festive weeks it often costs less than the equivalent dinner in town.

  • —Breakfasts and dinners covered, lunches free on the mountain
  • —Menus adapted to children and dietary needs
  • —Wines delivered before arrival
  • —No bookings to chase, no late-night driving

Booking at the right time

For Christmas, New Year and February half-term, book restaurants when you book your stay. We can arrange it before you arrive, and organise the chef for the evenings you would rather stay in.
